Our portable laboratory, the size of a smartphone, which needs a mere 20 minutes to identify viruses, bacteria, genetic mutations and fungi was the best in stirring the audience’s emotions during the Start-up Challenge competition, and won the title of the best start-up in the health & biotechnology category.
Fellow competitors were strong and the road to the finals not an easy one. Nearly 200 start-ups were actually competing for the jury’s appreciation of the potential of their innovative solutions in the Start-up Challenge, under this year’s slogan: “Technologies that change the world”. The jury selected 100 projects in 6 categories: new industry, environment, tradition & modernity, health & biotechnology, business processes and client & lifestyle. Start-up creators had a chance to present themselves to potential investors and representatives of large corporations within the Scale-up Alley, a dedicated space for business visionaries. Only 18 start-ups made it to the big finale (3 in each category), to further compete for the title of the “Start-up Challenge Winner” on the stage of the European Economic Congress and the European Start-up Days.
